Albert Einstein Discovery Center Ulm e.V.

The Albert Einstein Discovery Center Ulm e.V. is a non-profit association that will design, build, and operate a scientific experience and discovery center. In Ulm, Albert Einstein’s birthplace, the physicist and person will be portrayed in all his richness and complexity, making the impact of his work tangible. The focus of the Albert Einstein Discovery Center will be on experiences, encounters, experiments, and emotions.

Building

Renowned American architect Daniel Libeskind was commissioned to design the building at Karlstraße 1 (formerly an industrial site of the Ulm municipal utilities). The initial design for the building was presented in November 2024 and has been continuously refined since then.

Albert Einstein Discovery Center

In this project, initiated by local residents and privately funded, the Discovery Center’s primary goal is to bring Einstein’s scientific achievements closer to a broad audience. This can only be achieved if his revolutionary ideas—not only in physics, but also his values and worldview—are brought together in all their facets and made immediately accessible, discoverable, and understandable at the Discovery Center through innovative, immersive, and fascinating interactive exhibits.

At this Discovery Center—the only one of its kind in the world—visitors encounter Albert Einstein in a way that acknowledges the physicist and global citizen: through fun, the joy of learning, curiosity, critical thinking, and a conscious sense of responsibility for our world.

Visitors to the Discovery Center will gain a whole new perspective on

• Einstein’s physics and the technology that emerged from it
• Einstein’s life and work-particularly as a pacifist, politician, musician, civil rights activist, nonconformist, and icon
• His friendships and family life
• Topics related to the future

This interesting, cheerful, and emotional exploration of Einstein’s scientific work aims to spark enthusiasm for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) especially among young people, thereby driving humanity’s progress, as has occurred for millennia through new ideas and their implementation.

Association

As of August 2026, the non-profit organization has over 1,300 members and advocates worldwide. It has evolved into a citizens’ movement of dedicated supporters in Ulm and beyond, who wish to discover and bring to life the extraordinary figure of Albert Einstein as a role model and inspiration for a unique, holistic experience.

Members work on the project in various working groups on a voluntary basis. A five-member board oversees the activities. In the next phase, the association will be supplemented by a nonprofit limited liability company (gGmbH).

Ein Stein für Einstein – a piece of brick for Einstein

A piece of brick from Einstein’s birthplace can be yours. Albert Einstein’s birthhouse in Ulm was destroyed during World War II. Seventy years later, bricks from the house’s basement were discovered. We had these bricks cut into small cubes, each with an edge length of approximately 2 cm, which are displayed on a high-quality presentation plaque.
